TPLO LEG #2
Mid-April we find ourselves half way through Elvis' recovery time from TPLO surgery on leg #2.  While the decision to have TPLO surgery on his right rear leg initially was a no-brainer due to his limping, the decision to have TPLO surgery on his left rear leg was a bit more difficult.  Difficult not because we weren't happy with the results from the other leg's surgery results, instead the quandry came because now we knew what Elvis would have to go through.

The first 2 weeks after surgery we had to be especially careful about his incision site.  Watching for signs of infection was just one aspect.  We also had to be particularly careful to keep his activity level low to avoid and potential complications and allow the bone to begin to heal.  Any injuries could have had very devastating long-term implications. 

Luckily for us, Elvis seems to have the perfect personality for making our jobs easier.  4 weeks after surgery though now we find he must be feeling much better because he's started to get much more playful.  Found him up on the couch (a big NO NO) the other day.  With his 2nd leg improving every week, now we find it more of a challenge to keep him from overdoing it with the leg.

All in all we've been happy with the results but are still looking forward to the time when he can be off leash again.  

THERAPY DOG VESTS
Our new cooperation with the Therapy Dog Program Volunteers of Memorial Health Systems of Colorado Springs, Colorado is proceeding very well.  The MHS Therapy Dog volunteers now sporting matching vests, bandanas and some unique "apparel" items.  The latest offering is for Beau and Wally who will soon have their own Therapy Dog Volunteer towel.  Beau and Wally are Pekinese and due to the nature of their long coats, vests or bandans would not be suitable - instead Beau and Wally will have their own logo'ed MHS Volunteer towel to take with them when they visit the patients at MHS.
