February 5, 2009 - Sew Many Paws Goes Full Time As
many of you know, for the last few years in addition to managing the Sew Many Paws business, I have also worked a 40 hr per
week job at a local manufacturing company. Well after 28 years, my job was eliminated and I have been "downsized".
They say its a recession when the other guy loses his job but its a depression when you lose your job. :-) While
this unfortunate turn of events was quite unexpected, I plan to view this experience as a positive thing in our life. Sew Many Paws is now a full-time embroidery and gift shopping experience. As they
become available, I will be posting new samples of projects we've done which may give you ideas for your upcoming gift
giving needs. We have new designs to celebrate Valentines Day, St Patrick's Day and of course can't forget graduates!
Oh and did I mention Easter & RETIREMENT gifts as well?! I recently stitched out a sampler of the "Rainbow
Bridge" and hope to have it sewn into a wall hanging or mounted in a frame soon. Once it is complete, I will be
adding it to a new page soon to arrive on our website which will have many samples for your consideration. Thanks for all of your support and don't forget to pick up the March/April 2009 Stitches Magazine which
will feature Nosey's "overcoming adversity" story. Who knew how timely that article would be but, with God's
grace, we will be able to look at this new development and say it was the best thing that ever happened to us.
Remember
the wise words of Mr. Tom Brockus:
"Every Day is a Gift. How you use that gift is up to you.
Use it wisely!"

Charitable Gift Giving Program: We believe in sharing the blessings we've been given. That is why 10% of all profits
are donated to the 501c3 charities that are a part of our gift giving program. When paying your Sew Many Paws
invoice, please let us know the name and contact information of your favorite 501c3 charity and we will include it on our
gift giving program. If no charity is designated, Sew Many Paws will donate to a charity of our choice, such as:
Our History In December 2001, Sue & Tom (owners of Sue's Handyman & Sew Many Paws) adopted two labrador retriever
mix puppies from the Morgan County Humane Society. These puppies inspired Sue and Tom to volunteer with a local
Labrador Retriever rescue in order to give back to the community for the love they found with their new puppies, Elvis
and Nosey. At that time they were already owners of two rescued Siamese cats, Harley and
Scooter, adopted from Cats Haven (a local cat rescue organization). Over the years, Sue and Tom
helped to financially support various rescues/shelters in the Indy area but never took the plunge into fostering until a warm
spring day in 2005.
In May 2005, Buster was a stray in the neighborhood. A.R.P.O.
(the Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership) agreed to help find Buster a forever home but needed a foster home for him.
Not intending to add to their family, Sue & Tom agreed to foster Buster. After a few short weeks, it was decided
that Buster had already found the perfect home for him -right where he was - with Sue & Tom. With the family at
5 pets, it was decided the "inn was definitely full".
In March 2006, Tom retired and Sue's
Handyman LLC opened for business. The company mission simple: have fun and share blessings
with others. A charitable gift program was established. 10 % of profits from every
job was donated to area 501c3 charities (primarily animal shelters and rescues) that had significance to either the client
or Sue & Tom. Many times, Tom would do work at no cost to the client. He only requested that the client
make a monetary contribution to a local rescue or shelter in exchange for the work done.
On December 24, 2006,
life took a drastic change when black lab female, Nosey, was diagnosed with Lymphosarcoma. While
that particular canine cancer cannot be cured, it can be treated. Nosey began chemo treatment on Dec 30. Treatment
required twice weekly vet visits which in turn made scheduling handyman work difficult. A family decision was made to
convert the handyman business to an on-line pet retail business. Sue's Handyman projects became only those that
could be made from Tom's home workshop. Changing the business focus gave Tom the flexibility to care for
Nosey while at the same time create unique pet friendly products from his own workshop.
Mid-2007, upon the
completion of Nosey's chemo therapy and subsequent remission, the Sew Many Paws product line was added
and the company name changed to reflect the new business focus. Throughout the rest of 2007, various products were added.
The ultimate goal being to offer quality products for all phases of a pet's life from puppyhood thru the senior years.
Our policy of donating 10% of profits to charitable organizations continued with the new product line. Implementation
of a "pupper party program" added as a cost-saving measure for clients that would also help fundraising effort for their favorite
charity. A wholesale program was implemented to help fellow pet-friendly businesses expand their product offerings while still maintaining competitive
pricing/profit margins.
