What tomorrow brings
Well my dad seems to be doing better in some respects and worse in others.  The MDS turned out not to be what was the problem after all.  But over the last month he has had several small heart attacks and mini strokes.  Hard to belive that just 3 months ago, he was robust enough to mow yards for additional income and now he gets tired just moving from the bed to his wheelchair.

Got word also recently that our friend Gayle from Paws & Think (www.pawsandthink.org) lost her battle with colon cancer.  She will be surely missed by those who knew her best and also by those whose lives she changed through the Paws and Think organization.

These recent events have reinforced in our minds how precious life is but also what a comfort it is to be a Christian and know that our time on earth is but a brief frame in the whole eternity perspective.

Live each day as if it is your last - because we know not the number of days we have left on this great earth.  My dad taught me to work hard and be thankful for my blessings.  He taught me to be compassionate to those less fortunate.  He taught me one can never say "I love you" too many times.  He also taught me the value of controlling my temper.  From him, I learned that while saying I'm sorry may help soothe, it will never totally erase the memory of harsh words spoken in anger.  Better to leave the words unsaid.

So no matter what tomorrow brings, I will find comfort in knowing that one day after we've both passed away, we will meet and rejoice in heaven.

Heartache and Heaven
So recently there was a guy who claimed to know the exact date when Christ would come back and take His believers with Him to heaven, this event commonly known as The Rapture.  The guy got a lot of publicity - people calling him a flake, nuts or worse.  Now while I do believe the rapture is coming and maybe even sooner rather than later, I also believe what the Bible says that no one will know the exact time or date except God Himself.

What I do know though is that my dad is one person who will certainly be among the believers Christ would take with Him when He comes back to earth.  I would hope that we know someone whom we could say - Yep that person is certainly going to heaven.  Even more I would hope that we are among the believers who know that the Rapture is a real event sure to happen at some point.

So knowing that our time here on earth is just a "moment in time" compared with eternity, then it almost seems silly to be sad and heartbroken when a loved one dies--especially when we are sure the loved one is going to heaven.

We just got word that my dad was diagnosed with myelodysplastic (MDS).  From a selfish point of view, this diagnosis brings heartache to me and the rest of the family that love my dad.  But from a perspective of wanting "the best" for my dad - it's hard to not admit that being in heaven pain-free and healthy would be preferable over pain and suffering here on earth.

So if I cry or am sad at the recent news of one who has passed away or has been diagnosed with an incurable disease or a poor prognosis for recovery - my sadness will be tempered ore exerbated with the knowledge of their faith or lack thereof.  To all my friends and family who do not have a relationship with Christ, I urge you today to decide whom you will serve.  In the famous words of Ruth "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."
