The Cosmogen from last week wasn't working so they gave her Carboplatin this week. She vomitted
a couple of times while they were giving her the treatment. They sent her home with an armload of pills.
She has some pretty significant bruising on her belly (a side effect of the Carboplatin) but it really freaked us out
when we saw it--we thought she was bleeding internally. Luckily I noticed late in the week, the bruising
is going away. She was very lethargic thru Thursday but she now has a bit more energy and is almost back
to 100%. With the Carboplatin, the treatment schedule is every 3 weeks. She does go
back on Thursday March 5th for bloodwork but after today we can tell that the lumps are FINALLY starting to get a little smaller.
They're still there but are noticably getting smaller so once again our hope has been boosted that she may still be
with us for a while.

Sew Many Paws Newsletter January 2009 So
Many Tails –
Rescue News & Events Bone Appetit Bakery – Bone Appetit is excited to announce
a new fund-raising program for shelters and rescues. In the first project, we are teaming up with the Brown
County Humane Society. We’re hoping to get several more organizations participating in the next few months.
It’s still very new, so we would like to hear your comments/criticisms. There are two options that are intended to compliment one another, but each
can be offered individually. Here’s how it works: 1. Call Bone Appetit to order your free sales materials for each member of your group.
Run your fundraiser for 2-3 weeks collecting $12 for each product you pre-sell. (Your goal should be to pre-sell 10-20
products per group member). Call Bone Appetit and place your product order.) Your cost depends on the number of
products ordered. The rest of the money you collected is your profit to keep! The table below shows the profit
potential at a 35-40% return! # of participants | # products sold | % | Your $ profit | 25 | 250 | 35% | $1,050.00 | 50 | 500 | 35% | $2,100.00 | 75 | 750 | 40% | $3,600.00 | 125 | 1250 | 40% | $6000.00 |
2. Bone Appetit has also established
a web site www.barkingoodfundraiser.com just for animal rescue/adoption organizations. 35% of every purchase made on the site will be returned
to participating organizations. The web site can be used by itself as an on-going year-round fund raiser, or as a compliment
to a fund-raiser for those who want to re-order products they have previously purchased. Check out the web site for more information. Products include
all-natural baked treats in 6 flavors, a do-it-yourself dog treat mix in 2 flavors, doggie bagels, and cat treats –
bake your own, or already baked. We will be adding a cookbook in the spring, and can add other items, such as paw-print
car magnets, for those interested. Anyone who is interested can call or e-mail at treats@barkingood.com.
2Dogs2000Miles –To

Defend the Dogs – Help stop Indiana Puppy Mills. A
statewide rally at the Indiana Statehouse is planned for Tuesday Feb 10th. Local celebrity Dick
Wolfie will emcee the rally and a host of other celebrities will be on hand. For more information about
the rally visit: http://www.defendthedogs.org Book Review – “Even
CatSitters Get the Blues” by Blaize Clement
The third installment in the Dixie Hemingway
Mystery Series features: mysterious ladies, mad scientists and a pet iguana and of course a murder mystery
thrown in for good measure. Add in the twist that the bullet may have came from Dixie’s own gun and
who knows what trouble this dedicated pet sitter will find herself involved with not to mention the love interests that start
to pop up. This book delivers another entertaining read that while maybe not having the most intricate
plot does have characters that are easy to like and relate to.
Pet Tips –
Shawn Falls, Positive Training Solutions, recently gave a training session to the Love of Labs volunteers and offered many
good tips for handling behavior issues that rescue volunteers often face. A 10 pound puppy jumping on people
is a whole different thing than a 90 pound adult dog jumping on people. While many folks know that a dog
jumps to get attention, correcting the behavior is a bit more difficult and needs to be addressed in 2 steps.
First step being to correct the unwanted behavior but the second step (and one most often forgotten) is to let the
dog know the appropriate behavior desired. Correcting without letting the dog know the appropriate behavior
is like your boss at work always telling you the things you do wrong but never acknowledging the things you do right.
For more information about the second step to correcting unwanted behaviors, visit Shawn’s website at http://www.positivetrainingsolution.com Shawn is also available to speak at your rescues next event or volunteer training day.
He offers significant discounts to rescue & shelter groups and volunteers.

who passed away on Jan 16th. Please keep Spunk’s young owner in your prayers as she learns

So Many Sales - Pawsitive Logos – The Pawsitive Logos project is going well. When discussing fundraising topics with a shelter
volunteer recently, the topic of “security” with regard to logo’d apparel came up. Security
in the sense that they wanted logo’d apparel available for purchase by volunteers or staff but wanted to make sure that
only authorized volunteers and staff could purchase their specific logo’d items. They wanted to be
sure that no unauthorized persons could purchase their logo’d apparel and “pass themselves off as being involved
with the group”. I assured the volunteer that we have an authorization program in place limiting
orders accepted for pawsitive logo’d apparel. If your group would like to set up a program for logo’d
apparel, please feel free to contact me for more information.

Product News – Recently we submitted an “overcoming
adversity” story to Stitches Magazine (http://www.asipublications.com/Stitches/ a commercial embroidery magazine featuring embroidery and business tips, the latest fashion news/trends and product sourcing
information). The story detailed how our lives and our business has been impacted by Nosey’s cancer.
We are pleased to announce that Nosey’s story was selected as one of the top 4 stories in the nation and as such
her story will be featured in the March/April 2009 edition of Stitches Magazine. As soon as we receive
a copy of the article, we will post a link. To be featured in an industry trade magazine is a real feather
in our cap and is quite exciting for us.
NEW ITEMS: Our new embroidery machine
will stitch baseball caps. Sometime in the next few weeks we hope to order some stock caps to have on hand, until then,
however, feel free to bring your ballcap to us for personalization. Please note the design size is limited to no bigger
than 2 3/8" high by 5 1/8" wide.

Health Update – Nosey - February 2 had
chemo on Monday. The
vet upped the dosage of Mustargen because she’s done so well with it the last time. Her white blood cell count
is back up which is good news. Dr Lucroy is pleased with how well she is doing and he doesn’t seem to be too terribly
concerned about the lumps right now. They’re going to give her Mustargen for a couple more times and if the lumps
haven’t gone down by then, they’ll switch to something else. She also remains on the Procarbizine and the
Prednisone.

Can't Keep A Good Dog Down"R 2009 Calendar” . Our very own Nosey
Brockus is just one of many dogs on this calendar. While Nosey was not able to generate enough votes to
have “her own month”, she is definitely proud to be a part of the efforts to honor and recognize beloved dogs
who have been touched by cancer. For more information about ordering a 2009 calendar, please visit http://www.2dogs2000miles.org/Cancer_Calendars.html Cats Haven – $100 in 100 Hours – Raspberry the resident feline shelter manager at Cats Haven is conducting a fundraiser to surprise Barb

Camp BowWow. Professional Dog Trainer and therapy dog evaluator,
Shawn Falls will speak and give training tips for the volunteers. If you are looking for a fun doggie daycare,
please check out http://www.campbowwowusa.com/indiana/indianapolis/ Book Review – “Marley & Me” by John Grogan
Having read Marley & Me several years ago and with the recent
movie release, I couldn’t help but add my review for the book as well. I loved it. Cried
many times while reading it. It is one of the few books that I refuse to give away and is well worth reading
– even if you do see the movie first. I visited the John Grogan website to see if there were any
updates since the movie came out. Much to my surprise and delight there is another story yet to be told.
As Grogan says “In anticipation of the Marley & Me movie coming out Christmas Day,
the editors at USA WEEKEND asked me to write about our new Lab, Woodson, whom we adopted from the movie set. Woodson is just
about the most beautiful dog I have ever seen, even more handsome, I believe, than Marley. And that's saying a lot. Beside
that, he has a delightful personality -- a wonderful mix of joyful mischief and loyal affection. He has fit into our family
seamlessly, and our other Lab, Gracie, acts like a puppy again with her new playmate. Our new pup makes us all laugh and we
love him beyond words.
But Woodson has a back story I had not before written or spoken publicly about. When I accepted
the USA WEEKEND assignment, I knew I couldn't tell his story without telling the entire story.”
To read the rest of John Grogan’s blog about Woodson visit: http://johngroganbooks.com/blog/index.html
Pet Tips – With winter here, even our pets need a new game to play to ease boredom.
A couple of games I read about recently (sorry can’t remember source) are: 1) Kibble Hunt – (works for both dogs & cats) Instead
of feeding Fluffy or Fido their entire meal. Consider making a game of finding food. Start
off easy making a small pile of kibble in an unusual place, then graduate difficulty to inside a cup or other “hiding
place”. 2) Shell
Game – Show your pet a treat them close your hand over it. When the pet nudges your hand give them
the treat. Increase the difficulty by hiding your hand so that the pet must guess which hand, increase
difficulty by hiding under a bowl while pet is watching until you get to the most difficult of the pet actually having to
guess which of 3 bowls the treat is hidden under. 3) Speed Racer – This game is probably best suited for small dogs & cats but your call. Take
a ping pong ball and make it spin around the bottom of your bathtub. Cats and small dogs will be fascinated
by the fun. Just don’t forget to turn off the water beforehand.
Pet Links – Don’t forget if your organization has an upcoming event in which the public is invited to attend,
you may post the event on the Super Database calendar at http://www.indiana-paw.com/
Pet Prayer List – This month we want to highlight a couple
pets from our pet prayer request. The first is: Andrea a Siamese cat has been on our prayer
list for quite some time. Unfortunately she passed away on Christmas Eve. Please keep
her family in your prayers as they deal with her loss. The second is: Ashley
is a recent addition to our prayer list who is having some health concerns. Please keep Ashley and her
family in your prayers. For others on our prayer list, please visit: http://www.sewmanypaws.com/id74.html
Blog – We finished up counting down 10 things for which we are thankful and have been
a bit lax in starting a new topic. We do have a new years resolution to be a bit more “predicatable”
in our blogging in 2009. For now though, we just want to let you all know we feel truly blessed by your
friendship first and your business also. Please remember in these tough economic times, sometimes a kind
word or deem will make a hopeless situation seem a bit bearable. A good day is a day when you can give
to someone who cannot reciprocate. Every day is a Gift. How you use that gift is up
to you. Use it wisely! http://www.sewmanypaws.com/id72.html
So Many Sales - Pawsitive Logos – The startup phase for our new Pawsitive Logos program is underway and is already serving to
help raise awareness for our first charity partner Paws & Think. Bandanas & vests are available
to “pre-approved” Paws & Think clients and other items such as shirts, jackets, hats & more are available
for purchase to all Paws & Think supporters. A portion of the sales of P&T embroidered logo apparel
is donated to Paws & Think. http://www.sewmanypaws.com/catalog/c25_p1.html
After
the first of the year, we expect to add other organizations and/or businesses to this product category. Charitable Gift Giving Program – Your favorite charity can benefit from your Sew Many Paws purchase.

Product News – NEW ITEMS: Santa was good to us this year. We will now
be using a top of the line commercial duty embroidery machine, the Babylock BMP8 for all of our custom embroidery

job of stitching and it will also give us the capability to stitch baseball caps and much larger designs typically found on
jacket backs as well.
We will be posting photos soon of our latest stitchouts. http://www.babylock.com/embroidery/embroidery-professional/ Email Exclusive – 10% off normal retail price “in-stock” KeepSafe

Health Update – Nosey - January 29 Nosey had her 1 month chemo checkup and is
doing well. She goes back in another month for a checkup. If no signs of the cancer
are found next month, Dr Lucroy will officially declare her in remission. We are truly thankful for the
time we have with her and the blessings we receive every day.

Operation Baghdad Pups –
Operation Baghdad Pups began with an email received on September 11, 2007. The desperate words of the U.S. soldier serving
in Iraq told of his desire to get the dog, Charlie, he and his regiment had befriended out of the Middle East before their
tour of duty ended. Because it is against regulations for troops to befriend an animal or transport one on a military flight,
the likelihood of the determined soldiers succeeding alone seemed doubtful. For more about this project visit http://www.baghdadpups.com/

Book Review – “The Darkest Evening of the
Year” by Dean Koontz While I still have
about a fourth of the book to go, so far this book is living up to my expectations. Koontz typically writes
books with a “Sci-Fi Thriller” aspect to them. It seemed only fitting that Koontz, a Golden
Retriever owner, would at some point in his career incorporated Goldens into a story line. My personal
observations are that this book has some real life situations and violence that is not suitable for children.
Excerpt from http://www.deankoontz.com/books/the-darkest-evening-of-the-year/ : “Amy Redwing has dedicated her life to the southern California organization
she founded to rescue abandoned and endangered golden retrievers. Among dog lovers, she's a legend for the risks she'll
take to save an animal from abuse. Among her friends, Amy's heedless devotion is often cause for concern. To widower Brian
McCarthy, whose commitment she can't allow herself to return, Amy's behavior is far more puzzling and hides a shattering
secret.” Review: A
kind of Silence of the Lambs meets Marley & Me, Koontz's latest novel should
win him new readers with its insights into the power and mystery of the human-animal bond. But longtime fans of the author's
disturbing imagination – and his gift for edge-of-your-seat storytelling – won't be disappointed.”—Josh Emmons, People Magazine's Critics Choice

Health
Update – Nosey - November 25 Nosey had her final chemo and is officially in remission.
Her remission time between the first time she went thru chemo and this time was about 8 months. In
the past we were told to expect the second remission period to last about half what the first remission period was.
Dr Lucroy has, however, stated to Tom that he expects Nosey to be one of their “long-term” success stories.
We are not exactly sure what that means but for now we are thankful for the time we have with her and the blessings
we receive every day.

Nosey's name was originally inspired by the bloodhound breed. Did you know that a bloodhound can actually
testify in a court of law? That's how reliable the scent tracking abilities of a bloodhound can be. Tom had
originally wanted to adopt a bloodhound and give it the name "Nosey". As luck would have it, we adopted a
black lab mix instead and just named her Nosey. Little did we know at the time how well she would live up
to her name. In celebration of Nosey's birthday this month, our book review of the month had to feature the
JoBeth Sidden Bloodhound mystery series. An excerpt: “ I headed for the kitchen, and Bobby Lee
sat up, stretched, and padded after me. In March, he'll turn two. He's a one-hundred-thirty-two-pound AKC-registered
bloodhound. Twenty-nine inches to his shoulder, has a reddish-colored coat with a tiny bit of tan and white on his chest,
and is an extremely handsome dog. He's also a champion mantrailer, my best canine friend, a permanent houseguest, and
has been totally blind from birth. Rudy, who was curled in a ball, raised his head to view our departure but was too
lazy to get up and join us. He's a twenty-two-pound fat tomcat of indeterminate age who decided to move in a few years
ago. His pelt is black as midnight and he has piercing bright green eyes. He's stubborn, spoiled, and tries to boss Bobby
Lee and me around. When he doesn't get his way, he sulks. We let him get away with murder just to keep peace in the family.”
http://www.mysterynet.com/lanier/blind.shtml This book has a very surprising & pleasant ending. I would rate
this book as PG-14 – some of the adult situations in the book, however, may not be suitable for some pre-teens. Pet Tips – With Thanksgiving coming soon, Diana Guerrero offers sup important pet safety
tips. Most of us know that chocolate is not good for our pets but did you know that onions and alcohol can cause health concerns
as well? Visit Diana’s PET tips at: http://www.arkanimals.com/dlg/thanksgiving_holiday_pet_safety_tips.htm Pet Prayer List –
This month we want to highlight a couple pets from our

certainly use your prayers as they mourn her loss. Abby – has recently had her dosages of Rimadyl increased
but is still in pain and having difficulty getting up. Please pray for her. http://www.sewmanypaws.com/id74.htmlBlog – Each year near Thanksgiving time, we host a “Giving Thanks Contest”
for our clients to share their stories of thanks and how pets have changed their life. On Nov 6 Elvis & Nosey will turn
7 years old. November’s blog series will feature fond memories of our life with Elvis & Nosey and how they have
played a key role in our Charitable Gift Giving Program. Be sure to check it out this Tuesday. http://www.sewmanypaws.com/id72.html So Many Sales - Events

energy level is about what it was before the cancer hit. She has two more scheduled chemo treatments and then we go into the
“wait and see” phase. Hopefully her remission period this time will last much longer than the last time. But for
now we are spending as much time with her as possible and she is becoming quite spoiled. Your continued prayers on her behalf
are appreciated. PREMIER - Clients can purchase Premier Pet Products on a "spur of the moment"

Review – “The Penguin Who Knew Too Much”
by Donna Andrews Meg Langslow series features ornamental blacksmith Meg Langslow and her family.
“While digging a hole
to make a pond for his borrowed penguins, Meg's father digs up a body. And when rumors begin to spread that the corpse
might be the owner of the bankrupt local zoo that is normally the penguins' home, anxious volunteers begin taking advantage
of Dad's generous offer to take in the animals they've been fostering. As the llamas, sloths, and hyenas begin to
arrive, Meg fears that by the time the police solve the crime, she and her fiance, Michael, will have a zoo in their back
yard. A unnerving prospect at any time, but particularly now, when Meg fears it will derail her and Michael's plan to
escape their families and elope. So Meg does some sleuthing of her own.” This book was a fast, fun read for those who enjoy an entertaining
book with a few twists and turns. If you have a large, extended or excentric family, you will surely enjoy
the characters from Meg’s family that “help”.

month I shared with you a review of this book from a client. Having read the book myself this past month, I have to say I
thoroughly enjoyed the book both as a fan of racing and a pet lover. The book does explore some negative aspects of human
behavior (death & betrayal) and thus, in my opinion, it would not be suitable for children under 7 yrs. Magazine
Review – We have subscriptions for quite a few craft and sewing magazines. One that I would recommend for those
interesting in scrapbooking is: Creating Keepsakes. http://www.creatingkeepsakes.com/ The magazine features many layout designs, tips to make your scrapbooking dollars go farther and also features advertisements
on new products in the industry. Another magazine that I would recommend for the sewing enthusiast who sews for young children
is: Sew Beautiful. Sew Beautiful features tips, patterns and techniques for heirloom sewing, including smocking and making
ruffles. http://www.sewbeautifulmag.com/ Pet Tips – When our pups were very young and going thru Puppy Kindergarten,
the instructor gave us some very good advice. Starting from one end of your pet and traveling to the opposite end, run your
hands over your pup to familiarize yourself with your pup’s individual lumps and bumps. Knowing your pup’s body
as well as you know your own will aid you in detecting changes in your pup’s physical body before symptoms actually
manifest themselves. As we were doing a routine petting/check on Nosey one day, we found a lump that turned out to be cancer.
Had we not been in the habit of checking her regularly, the cancer would have spread much further before actual symptoms could
be seen. Nosey’s early cancer detection has played a key role in her successful treatment. Tip for this month –
early detection is important for pets as well as people in the treatment of cancer. Pet Prayer List –
This month we want to highlight a couple pets from our pet prayer request. The first is: Ichabod –
who passed away. His family needs our continued prayers as they deal with his loss. The second is: Sadie
who had some x-rays taken of her abdomen. They showed a large mass in her liver. The mass is too large to operate on. They
say she has 2-4 months to live. Her family would appreciate your prayers. Please be sure to check out the prayer list and
keep the pets and their families in your prayers. http://www.sewmanypaws.com/id74.htmlBlog – Our weekly blog on tips for starting a non-profit organization is close to
conclusion. Please be sure to check it out if you have not yet done so. Even if you are not planning to start your own group,
the topic itself may be helpful in determining how to evaluate a charity that needs your support. Our blog can be found on

Health Update – Nosey - August 28 She has gone all week without licking her
leg. This is a major improvement and cause for rejoicing. Unfortunately her allergies have been acting up. Normally during
the allergy season, she would lick her paws raw but this year we’ve been keeping her from doing so. She has, however,
found a way to relieve the itch that has created a new problem. She has rubbed a spot on her jaw and around her rectum raw.
This latest drama just goes to show that when dealing with a smart dog, you can never let down your guard! Nosey is on antibiotics.
At her next chemo treatment in 2 weeks, if the spot on her jaw has not healed, Dr Lucroy will do a biopsy on it just to make
sure the spot is not cancerous.
On the chemo side of things, Dr Lucroy is still saying she is doing remarkably
well and he is quite pleased with how she is doing. She had a slight problem over the last 2 weeks with crystals forming in
her bladder which caused some irritation thus, we have had to remove a 2nd medication from her treatment protocol. She is
on antibiotics for that as well so we’re hoping that clears up soon as well.
Your continued prayers on her
behalf are appreciated.

Rain” by GarthStein This month’s book review is by referral from a client who has recommended it
for anyone that loves dogs or racing. I like both so I’ve added this one to my list to get soon. Barnes & Noble’s
website says this book is: “A heart wrenching but deeply funny and ultimately uplifting story of family, love, loyalty
and hope.” http://search.barnesandnoble.com/The-Art-of-Racing-in-the-Rain/=Garth-Stein/e/9780061537936/?tabname=custreview Cust Review - Synopsis: “Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly
human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs). He has educated himself by watching television extensively, and by listening
very closely to the words of his master, Denny Swift, an up-and-coming race car driver.” Not having
read the book yet, I cannot say if the book is suitable for children under 13 yrs but having heard about this book from more
than one person, I am putting it on my must read list. Pet Training Tips –
Have
you ever wanted to teach your dog a new trick for a family & friends get-together? Well the experts will tell you the
best way to teach a trick is to break the action down into very small steps. Once the dog has mastered one step, move on to
the next. If your dog is having trouble with the new step, he made need more work on step number one or he made need step
number two broken down into smaller steps. Its like going on a trip – sometimes you can get from point A to point C
by simply making a stop at point B but then other times the journey from A to C must be by way of point B1, B2 and B3. For
more tips on teaching your dog tricks like “Flip a Treat”, “Play Dead” or “Roll Over”
visit: http://www.samsclubmemberservices.com/Events/PetCenter-TeachingYourDogNewTricks.aspx Pet Prayer List –
This month we want to highlight a couple
pets from our pet prayer request. The first is: "Missing Pets" – we’ve
had several prayer requests this month from website visitors whose pets have gone missing-specifically IZ and Gus. Because
a missing pet is often an hour by hour/day by day changing situation, we have not posted their names but please note they
are in our prayers. The second is: Rocky who has gone on to puppy heaven. He will be sorely missed
by all who knew him. There are updates on quite a few others. Please be sure to check out the prayer list and keep the pets
and their families in your prayers. http://www.sewmanypaws.com/id74.html Blog – Our weekly blog on tips for starting a non-profit
organization has covered the Visionary Stage and this past week we’ve begun to get to the Planning Stage with “ Your
Laws, My Laws and By Laws”. Please be sure to check it out if you have not yet done so. Even if you are not
planning to start your own group, the topic itself may be helpful in determining how to evaluate a charity that needs your
support. Our blog can be found on the Product Catalog page about half way down the page. http://www.sewmanypaws.com/id72.html So Many Sales -
Website & Links
– It has been brought to our attention that the links on the FAQ page have changed. We hope to have all
the broken links fixed by Wednesday Aug 6th. The instructional guides for our products such as the Easy Walk Harness, the
Gentle Leader Headcollar and the KeepSafe Break Away Collar are just a few of the sizing and instructional guides found on
the FAQ page. The FAQ page is full of tips for choosing the right fit or gift for your pet or loved one http://www.sewmanypaws.com/id76.html Health Update – Nosey - August 1 Nosey had a setback over the past week. The
leg that we thought had been close to healing has been reopened a few times and now she is back to the point where she has
to wear both a bandage and a sock. We had tried to start weaning Nosey away from being with Tom 24/7 and had pretty good
luck until this past Sunday. For whatever reason, she's decided that the leg needs her attention and thus she must once
again have a caretaker with her at all times.
On the chemo side of things, we are no longer getting the bright
and sunny outlook we once had from Nosey's oncologist. Tom says whenever he asks them about Nosey and winter vacation
“they get squirmy”. As he understands it, she is doing well and the 8/14 treatment should be fine. The 8/28 date,
however is when she is scheduled for the medication that they are telling us she has already received maximum dosage allowable.
If they give it to her again on 8/28 per the protocol plan, according to the drug manufacturer she is at a high risk for heart
failure.
We are scheduled to meet with Dr Lucroy on 8/28 to discuss treatment options, but at this point
we don’t know what they will do on 8/28. Could be that because she’s doing so well they may decide it’s
worth the risk to go ahead and give that particular medicine to her again then again they may have another drug they can substitute.
We just don’t know. Tom thinks they are “preparing us” for worst case scenario but we’ll see when
the time comes. For now, with the exception of her leg, Nosey continues to act perfectly normal.
Product News – PRICING: Due to rising costs from our suppliers, Premier
Pet Products has been forced to evaluate pricing on many items. On some items, it has been determined that no price increase
will be necessary but unfortunately, effective August 1, we’ve had to increase the price on some items. We will
attempt to get the new pricing loaded onto our website as quick as possible. Please email or telephone us for current
pricing on Premier Pet Product items.
Email Exclusive – All orders over $26 during August will receive
a free “party favor” gift to help Tom and I celebrate our 26 years of marriage. Clients must be on our electronic
mailing list to be eligible for this free offer. August Special – Have one item embroidered and get 2nd item embroidered
with the same design at half price.
Embroidery News – After having
attended the recent Indiana Embroidery Conference in Columbus in mid-July, I now have tons of new project ideas that we hope
to offer for sale on our website soon. If you are looking for something unique for the upcoming gift giving season, please
be sure to give me a call. I’d love to discuss some of the new techniques I learned while at the conference.
Design “Templates” - In response to recent requests too, it seemed like an opportune time to
spell out more clearly our embroidery stitch prices. As with anything that is “artistic” in nature, there are
a multitude of choices. Some digitizing artists create very good designs and some designs are more economical but may not
be as dense or the “registration” may not always be precise. Clients wishing to have a gift embellished can schedule
a visit to discuss their project and/or look thru our stock designs.
We now have a whole new library
of fonts to choose from as well. There are also millions of designs that can be ordered as a “non-stock”
design. Any design bigger than 6.25” x 10.25” will be considered “special order” with a premium charge
associated with “splitting” the design. For more information on XL designs, please contact us.
Cost of Design - If a design "template" is a stock design (or it is available free from digitizer
or I am able to digitize the design myself) then there will be no design fee (only fee is the stitching of the design). If,
however, the client’s preferred design "template" is non-stock then the client will be charged what I pay
to buy the design. Initial client will be refunded design fees if/when a second client requests the same design.
Stitches - Normal "stitch out" pricing is $8 per 10,000 stitches. If the design is larger than
6.25” x 10.25”, there may be an additional fee to split.
Embroidery
Pricing = Cost of design + ($8 per 10,000 stitches) For example: Balboa Threadworks
has a design that features the head of a yellow Labrador Retriever (approximate size of design is 3” x 2”). The
design itself is on sale from Balboa thru the end of August for $8. The design has just over 10,000 stitches. If a client
were to order an item with this design embroidered on it before August 31 then their cost to have the design embroidered on
an item would be - $8 design + $8 stitchout fee = $16. If ordered after August 31, however, the design price would
revert to the normal price that Balboa would charge of $18 and the total my client would then pay would be $18 design + $8
stitchout fee = $26. If you would like further information on embroidery pricing or designs available, please
do not hesitate to give me a call. PREMIER - Clients can purchase

New Leash on Death by Susan Conant
"First in the bone-chilling series!
Introducing amateur detective Holly Winter-and a canine with a nose for crime." This book is one of those
"fun" books that keep you entertained - especially if you have a love for dog obedience shows and the characters
found when mixing up a bunch of dog crazy folks. If you've ever gone thru a group obedience training class, you've
probably witnessed how even the best behaved dog can humble his human. "A bone to
pick - At dog obedience trials, fighting is common-especially between owners. But Dog's Life columnist Holly Winter
is shocked when a mere training session ends in murder. Between sit, heel, and the final long down, a retired doctor
takes the longest down of all-strangled with his malamute Rowdy's leash! And when Holly takes the big, beautiful
orphaned dog home, he quickly becomes her cherished new partner in digging up clues to a crime that cuts to the bone with
betrayal...and touches the heart of everyone who has ever loved a dog." I would rate this
book as a PG-13 fun for adults but it has some violent content not suitable for young children.
Pet Training Tips:
Loud
noises can be particularly stressful for pets. While celebrating the 4th of July, be sure to remind family members and
guest to be aware when opening doors. Fireworks and other loud celebrations could cause pets to rush out of open doors
(when they would normally never do so). If you are planning on watching a fireworks display, consider leaving Fido &
Fluffy at home with the TV on - tuned in to the Animal Planet station of course! Maybe even consider popping in their
favorite Bug or Bird video or DVD. http://www.kittyshow.com/vhsmaininfo.htmSo Many Sales - Pet
Prayer List - Please be sure to check our pet prayer list often and pray
for the pets and families in need. This month we'd like to highlight 2 families on our prayer list. http://www.sewmanypaws.com/id74.html The first is Toby and his family.
Toby is experiencing some fear based behaviors resulting from possibly his earlier years before he was rescued. Please
keep Toby and his family in your prayers as they work to address the behaviors. The second is Wyatt and his family. Not only
does Wyatt have cancer but his family recently lost a loved one (Melanie). In addition the family home was flooded during
recent rains and not to mention their older dog Gatsby is having troubles adjusting to life without Melanie. Continued
prayers on their & their human's behalf are appreciated.

Book Review: Lost &
Found by Jacqueline Sheehan http://www.jacquelinesheehan.com/Books/LostandFound
"The first few pages of this novel will shock
readers to attention, as Roxanne (Rocky) Pelligrino’s veterinarian husband dies at a stunningly young age – and
her life is sent into a tailspin. She forsakes her practice at a local university
and unable to cope with life without Bob, Rocky leaves town and her job as a psychologist and heads to secluded Peak’s
Island, off the coast of Portland, Maine. There, continuing in this
complete departure from life as normal, she becomes the island’s animal control warden and reinvents her past so that
it no longer includes the tragic fact of her husband’s death. While scouring the wintry scrubland for strays, Rocky
finds a dog with a handmade arrow sticking out of his shoulder. She is drawn to the wounded dog, and in searching for the
person (people) responsible for his injuries, she adopts a journey to catharsis, as well."
I always enjoy a good read and this book did
not disappoint. I did wonder why the book's publisher decided to put a photo of a chocolate labrador on the cover
when the story was about a black lab but I guess a brown dog photographs better than a black dog. Maybe we should send
them tips to photographing a black dog. :-) I would recommend this book to adults although there might be
a bit too much realistic violence for children.

So Many Sales - Website News: We’ve made lots of changes this past
month to our website. Below are just a few of the changes of interest. NEW
Pet Prayer Page
- We decided that often people are reluctant to ask for prayers on behalf of their pet thinking that others will not appreciate
the feeling that the pet is more than just a pet - its a member of the family. We believe in the power of prayer even
though we realize that sometimes the answer to prayers may not be what we want. The Pet Prayer page is for those that
wish prayers on behalf of their pet or who are willing to pray for God's will in the lives of other people and their pets. At the bottom
of our pet prayer page is a memorial list of those we've lost in 2008.
Links: We’ve added a new section to our Contact Us & Links page. Links to recommended pet friendly businesses can be found on this page. Businesses found on this page are
separate entities and not affiliated with Sew Many Paws. They are simply being listed as a source for "rescue friendly"
businesses that we (or our friends) have personal knowledge of.
Blog: Our blog postings have been sporatic at best. If you have
ideas on topics you'd like to see on our blog, please email us at sue@sewmanypaws.com.

you will be given the opportunity to select which rescue or shelter receives a free gift from Sew Many Paws. (This gift
will be in addition to the normal 10% donation.) Calvin, the new MCHS Adoption Ambassador, is the recipient of the first

We will still be a sponsor for the event and all Olympic participants will receive a small gift in their goodie bag from Sew
Many Paws. Submit a photo of yourself (or your dog) wearing a 2008 ARPO Olympic event t-shirt showing the
SMP logo and receive $2 off your next Sew Many Paws order. (www.adoptarpo.org for Olympics t-shirt ordering info.) Health Update:
This past month Nosey had a slight setback. The chemo pills that they first tried on her
were not effective so she had to go back to intraveinous chemo. The intraveinous chemo is particularly hard on her immune
system. The drugs themselve are a balancing act. Some negatively affect the liver and some negatively affect the
kidneys. On the other hand, to look at her most days, one would never believe she is a sick dog. Her current treatment
protocol is expected to last about 16 weeks. Given that time frame she should finish up her chemo sometime
in early September barring any unforeseen complications. We have made a family decision to spend as much time as possible
with her this summer.
We have a Nosey Update page on our website for those that wish to keep track of her
progress. The miracles of praye r and modern medicine have kept her pain free and seemingly otherwise healthy
for now. We are grateful for your continued prayers on her behalf.

from a Freethinking Dog by Ted Kerasote Merle’s Door is was a truly moving story of a man and his dog. While some of the “pet
owner” opinions/responsibilities expressed by the author are greatly different than mine, I do understand that the author
lives in a different environment than I and he acknowledges that the freedoms Merle had would not work in a big city environment.
On a scale of 1-4 paws, with 4 paws being GRRREAT, I’d give the book a 3 paws up rating for experienced
dog owners who know enough to make informed decisions on the “Freethinking Dog” lifestyle. I
would caution new pet owners to read the book as entertainment but to consult an obedience trainer before ever
considering implementing the Freethinking lifestyle described in the book.
“Merle's Door: Synopsis Merle
and Ted found each other in the Utah desert. Merle was about ten months old, surviving on his own, and looking for a human
to hang his heart on. Ted was forty-one, liked to write about animals, and had been searching for a pup whom he could shape
into a companion. … using Merle's life and lessons as a door into the world of dogs, Ted takes us on the journey
they shared. He explores why the dog-human bond is so intense …”

On Nosey’s recent oncologist visit, it was
discovered that her lymphosarcoma has returned. On Monday April 14 she started a second round of chemo
therapy. The chemo this time is pills rather than intraveinous and will be a 15 week treatment plan.
The vet thinks that we should get another 6-18 months with this treatment plan and he says he has a “deep menu”
of other treatment options that we can try next if need be. The miracles of prayer and modern medicine
have kept her pain free and seemingly otherwise healthy for now. We are grateful for your continued prayers
on her behalf.
Pet Prayer List:
One new thing we’ve experienced that it is hard sometimes to ask for prayers on behalf of a pet. We
have, therefore, placed a page on our website where pet owners can request prayers for their pet.

Book Review: Rescuing Sprite - A Dog Lover's Story of Joy
and Anguish by Mark R. Levin
"Although Mark Levin is known as a constitutional lawyer and a nationally syndicated broadcaster, he is, first and
foremost, a dog lover...Rescuing Sprite is a stunningly intimate look at the love between a family and a dog, one that movingly
shows, in Mark Levin's works, that "in the end, we humans are the lucky ones." When browsing the bookstore recently, I came across this book.
The dedication "to my dogs, your dogs, and all dogs who desparately need a home" obviously caught my eye .
Then when I read the jacket sleeve and read that a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book would go to animal shelters--I
had to buy it. While the book is small in size and page count, I would not classify it as "light reading".
Anyone that has ever had to deal with declining health of a beloved pet will definitely need to keep a box of tissues close
by when reading the book. The best reason I would recommend this book to others, is that the book clearly shows how
quickly & deeply a senior shelter dog can become a part of a forever family.

The Indiana House Rabbit Society will undoubtedly soon find itself
being swamped with calls from people looking to surrender bunnies that were given as gifts to children for the Easter
holiday. Adding a rabbit (or any other pet) to your household should never happen unless you have become informed about
the care and needs of the particular pet/breed/species. Several years ago, Tom and I rescued an escaped bunny that was
hopping thru the neighborhood. We realized at the time we had no idea at all how to properly care for a rabbit.
Luckily the bunny was eventually returned to his owners. Had we ended up adding Mr Bunny to our family the IHRS

information. To learn more about Living with a Companion Rabbit visit http://www.indianahrs.org/care-pets.aspx So Many Sales -

FUNDRAISING - Winter months are particularly hard
for most rescues when donations from supporters are reduced. The continued need for financial support causes many to look
for new and unique opportunities for fundraising. Alyson Wininger,Sales Consultant for The Body Shop at Home
has come up with a fundraising program to help area rescue beat the winter blahs and fundraise too. Alyson says: As a
consultant for The Body Shop at Home, I do spa parties and sell products for the body all of which are cruelty free
as our company is against animal testing. I would be interested in doing a fund raiser and donating a portion of all sales
to Indy area rescue organizations. Rescues could host a party and/or I would be willing to set up a booth at a pet fair.
If your rescue group would like more information about this unique fundraising opportunity, please email me sewmanypaws@comcast.net and use "Alyson's Body Shop" in the subject line.
NEW LABRADOR RETRIEVER RESCUE IN TOWN - Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption
is an all-volunteer, non-profit (currently filing for 501(c)(3) status) rescue organization. Even though
there are several other labrador retriever groups based in the Indy area (LOLIN and CILRA), Lucky Lab's president, Kathy M and her fellow volunteers know that unfortunately the central Indiana & midwest
USA shelters are still overflowing with adoptable labrador retrievers due to the popularity of the labrador retriever
breed. For more information about Lucky Lab Rescue & Adoption, visit their website at www.luckylabrescue.com Lucky Lab has several events planned in the upcoming few weeks--check out their website for time & place.
