Pyranees dogs, Hudson & Murphy, along their owner “Yer Big Dog”, Luke began a walk from Austin (TX) to Boston

team is offering the “Cancer Can't Keep A Good Dog Down"R 2009 Calendar” .
Our very own Nosey Brockus is just one of many dogs on this calendar. While Nosey was not able to
generate enough votes to have “her own month”, she is definitely proud to be a part of the efforts to honor and
recognize beloved dogs who have been touched by cancer. For more information about ordering a 2009 calendar, please

Book Review –
“Marley & Me” by John Grogan
Having read Marley & Me several years ago and with the recent
movie release, I couldn’t help but add my review for the book as well. I loved it. Cried
many times while reading it. It is one of the few books that I refuse to give away and is well worth reading
– even if you do see the movie first. I visited the John Grogan website to see if there were any
updates since the movie came out. Much to my surprise and delight there is another story yet to be told.
As Grogan says “In anticipation of the Marley & Me movie coming out Christmas Day,
the editors at USA WEEKEND asked me to write about our new Lab, Woodson, whom we adopted from the movie set. Woodson is just
about the most beautiful dog I have ever seen, even more handsome, I believe, than Marley. And that's saying a lot. Beside
that, he has a delightful personality -- a wonderful mix of joyful mischief and loyal affection. He has fit into our family
seamlessly, and our other Lab, Gracie, acts like a puppy again with her new playmate. Our new pup makes us all laugh and we
love him beyond words.
But Woodson has a back story I had not before written or spoken publicly about. When I accepted
the USA WEEKEND assignment, I knew I couldn't tell his story without telling the entire story.”

Pet Tips – With winter here, even our pets need a new game to play to ease boredom.
A couple of games I read about recently (sorry can’t remember source) are:
1) Kibble Hunt – (works for both dogs & cats) Instead
of feeding Fluffy or Fido their entire meal. Consider making a game of finding food. Start
off easy making a small pile of kibble in an unusual place, then graduate difficulty to inside a cup or other “hiding
place”.
2) Shell
Game – Show your pet a treat them close your hand over it. When the pet nudges your hand give them
the treat. Increase the difficulty by hiding your hand so that the pet must guess which hand, increase
difficulty by hiding under a bowl while pet is watching until you get to the most difficult of the pet actually having to
guess which of 3 bowls the treat is hidden under.
3) Speed Racer – This game is probably best suited for small dogs & cats but your call. Take
a ping pong ball and make it spin around the bottom of your bathtub. Cats and small dogs will be fascinated
by the fun. Just don’t forget to turn off the water beforehand.
Pet Links – Don’t forget if your organization has an upcoming event in which the public is invited to attend,
you may post the event on the Super Database calendar at http://www.indiana-paw.com/
Pet Prayer List –
This month we want to highlight a couple
pets from our pet prayer request. The first is: Andrea a Siamese cat has been on our prayer
list for quite some time. Unfortunately she passed away on Christmas Eve. Please keep
her family in your prayers as they deal with her loss. The second is: Ashley
is a recent addition to our prayer list who is having some health concerns. Please keep Ashley and her
family in your prayers. For others on our prayer list, please visit: http://www.sewmanypaws.com/id74.html
Blog – We finished up counting down 10 things for which we are thankful and have been
a bit lax in starting a new topic. We do have a new years resolution to be a bit more “predicatable”
in our blogging in 2009. For now though, we just want to let you all know we feel truly blessed by your
friendship first and your business also. Please remember in these tough economic times, sometimes a kind
word or deem will make a hopeless situation seem a bit bearable. A good day is a day when you can give
to someone who cannot reciprocate. Every day is a Gift. How you use that gift is up
to you. Use it wisely! http://www.sewmanypaws.com/id72.html

Product News –
NEW ITEMS: Santa was good to us this year. We will now
be using a top of the line commercial duty embroidery machine, the Babylock BMP8 for all of our custom embroidery
work. During the few test patterns I’ve stitched so far, I notice this machine does a much finer
job of stitching and it will also give us the capability to stitch baseball caps and much larger designs typically found on
jacket backs as well.
We will be posting photos soon of our latest stitchouts. http://www.babylock.com/embroidery/embroidery-professional/

Health Update – Nosey - January 29 Nosey had her 1 month chemo checkup and is
doing well. She goes back in another month for a checkup. If no signs of the cancer
